UBP Model, 5 String: Prototype for Ugly Bass Player site owner Slade

The UBP Model will be similar to my DC-1 body style, with a deeper upper horn cutaway. This first one is a "prototype" for this one, and is really going to be "pimped out"!

Here are the specs:

Neck:
  • 5 Piece neck: Wenge with two Australian Blackwood stringers
  • Stabilized Leopardwood Fingerboard, 24 fret, 34" scale
  • Thin Purpleheart accent layer between fingerboard and neck
  • Australian Blackwood headstock with Purpleheart accent layer and Amboyna Burl overlay (to match the body)
  • 2 mm side dots
  • White and Gold Mother of Pearl V Block Inlays
  • UBP Logo inlay at 12th fret in White Mother of Pearl and Paua Abalone


  • Body:
  • Australian Blackwood body wings and back
  • One piece Amboyna Burl Top
  • Thin purpleheart accent layer between the top and body wings


  • Hardware and Electronics:
  • Hipshot ultralight tuners and "A" style bridge, black
  • Black dome knobs
  • One Bartolini "MM" style pickup with Aguilar OBP-3 preamp

    01 September 2004 - Here are pics of some of the woods and inlays, and I'll add pics as soon as I start making sawdust!

    21 October - Neck is done, truss rod is in, fingerboard glued and clamped. Next the inlays go in the fingerboard, then the body wings

    06 December 2004 - Whew! The new UBP.com Logo and "Slade" inlays arrived. I had to order them twice, as the first two didn't turn out right. Well, they're all in, so next to glue up the body wings and then carve the neck.
